Hi... well.. I have a 1987 Savage...same as 97 ???.. not sure but.. anyhow my rear shocks have a hole in them ... on the bottom of the shock. Put a screwdriver or an allen wrench all the way in to the hole on the inside of the shock.. then you use the leverage of the screwdriver and turn the shock either way and tighten it up or loosen it up... look underneath the shock.. you should be able to see up in there and see the "notches" that the shock has... well.. I probably didn't explain it very well.. but try it out..
